World-class Liverpool transport hub planned

World-class Liverpool transport hub planned

Metro Mayor of Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram has revealed plans to construct a new £6 billion station in Liverpool city centre.

Speaking at the MIPIM property festival on the French Riviera in March, he said that Lime Street will not be able to cope with future service levels and that a new station would provide full connections with both HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail.

Rotheram has created a station commission to deliver the project, which he believes will reduce Liverpool to Manchester journey times to just 23 minutes, and deliver £15bn in Gross Value Added to the City Region alongside 24,000 new jobs, 11,000 new homes and 3.6 million additional visitors.
