Using data to understand passenger behaviour

Atkins engineering ‘big data’ into better designs – Engineering consultancy Atkins is working with telecoms group EE to ‘track’ people via their mobile phone signals to see how they move around railway stations and airports. The data is anonymous and Atkins says it can use the data to make its designs more efficient. This is really interesting technology that could have all sorts of railway applications for understanding passenger behaviour. – SB
