Uber represents threat to public transport

Uber ‘nuclear bomb’ is heading for transport - The Chief Executive of Transdev in the UK and Ireland has warned that a ‘nuclear bomb’ is heading for the public transport sector. Nigel Stevens says that the entire public transport sector will face threats and opportunities from the app-based taxi service.

“People expect to be able to press a button and their transport requirements are met,” says Stevens. Transport businesses would have to ask whether their new mobility ventures (such as Green Tomato Cars) were “complementers” or “disrupters” to existing businesses.

“If it’s a disrupter, their management teams will probably see this disruption as a threat, and therefore fail to give it the creativity, innovation and drive it needs to succeed”. - PP
