‘Trade-offs’ could fund service improvements

In its West Midlands franchise consultation, the Department for Transport is considering withdrawing some lightly used train services to help fund additional capacity elsewhere. The report states: “It may be necessary to make trade-offs to help fund higher frequencies and investment in facilities on core parts of the network.” The revisions are part of an agenda to better meet current patterns of demand support economic growth.
