Former Transport Minister Norman Baker enters the debate about the “pitiful nature of the Southern ‘service’ that has now endured for months and is due to get even worse”.
His four-point approach to ending the acrimonious dispute is: the Government must get more involved, in the form of new Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling; serious consideration should be given to terminating the managing contract for Southern and running it through Directly Operated Railways; Govia Thameslink railway Chief Executive Charles Horton should consider resigning; and the RMT (and ASLEFT) needs to be more flexible.
