Revitalising major railway stations

Nick Richardson, director of the Transport Planning Society, looks at how large sums are being spent to upgrade major stations, and how these principles can be applied to smaller stations.

On how stations can become more of a destination for the wider public, while retaining their “heritage and dignity” he concludes that while incorporating hairdressers, parcels agents and food outlets is hardly new, perhaps “facilities such as child care, healthcare and meeting spaces might become more common”.
