MTR says the next Wales and Borders franchise is among its primary targets for expanding its UK rail presence. The company wants to replace the majority of the current Welsh fleet with new trains, rather than rely on cascades and refurbishment. And it wants to use its experiences of property development in Hong Kong, to capture revenue from increased land values when new transport infrastructure is built.
