The number of Indian train drivers failing alcohol tests at work has tripled in three years, writes Hugh Tomlinson.
At least 81 were caught under the influence of alcohol in 2016, on a network that carries 23 million passengers a day and already suffers from a poor safety record.
Most of the drivers failed tests when signing in and so were prevented from working, but it is understood that at least 15% tested positive once they had finished their shifts.
Disciplinary measures are notoriously lax, with most drink drivers facing no more than a suspension.
