Newspaper comment authors seem to have been on the offensive recently, urging new Prime Minister Theresa May to put a stop to HS2. Writer Ysenda Maxtone Graham writes that “this phallic line will wreck communities and cost billions, for little benefit except to the egos of its backers”. Yes, you did read that right – “phallic”. She claims that the nation is broadly united in being against HS2 and that Theresa May should rethink the project.
