A review by former RGI Editor and acknowledged HSR expert Murray Hughes, who summarises that while construction in Europe may be slowing, it is accelerating in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Morocco is the first African nation to embrace HSR while there is also an Egyptian proposal for a 600km Cairo-Luxor line. Even the USA, where any kind of long distance fast passenger train is a distant memory, is moving towards HSR in both California and Texas, she a privately funded project is under way. The California scheme is due to open with 320kph trains between Los Angeles and San Francisco in 2029, with 47km of civil works already under way at Fresno.
