German rail freight declines further

Reflecting the current state of freight in the UK, freight in Germany measured small declines in 2016 according to figures released by the German federal statistical office Destatis. This is a trend that has been continuing in recent years. According to the article, this is due to the decline in coal and steel being transported. In contrast, the Port of Hamburg announced that 2016 figures show continued growth in the volume of freight transported into or out of the port by rail.
