The second 106km phase of TGV Est linking Paris to Strasbourg has opened three months later than planned.
The delay from April to July was forced by the derailment of a test train near Eckwersheim on November 14 2015, killing 11 people.
Repairs are still being carried out on the damaged section of track, necessitating single line working on a 27km stretch of the route.
Even so, journey times have still been reduced to less than two hours between the two cities, with 16 services operating per day in each direction.
