A website on the 'dark web' is offering fraudulent tickets at a fraction of the normal fare, an investigation by BBC's Inside Out programme has found.
According to Times Consumer Affairs Correspondent Andrew Ellson, a reporter was able to complete 12 rail journeys using the fake tickets unchallenged after buying them with virtual currency Bitcoin.
The 'dark web' is a hidden part of the internet and is not indexed by search engines such as Google, but can only be accessed by users who download appropriate software. When contacted by the BBC, the fraudsters claimed to be offering an 'affordable public service'.
