RGI reports on the 9th UIC World Congress on High Speed Rail, making a half-century of HSR operation and setting priorities for the next 50 years of development. Thee are now 30,000km of dedicated HSR operating worldwide and this is expected to double in the next 20 years. more than 15bn passengers have travelled on HSR - equivalent to twice the world population.
