After 50 years, a new era opens for PTEs

In a Ministerial Briefing, Transport Minister Andrew Jones says that transport policy has gone full circle. “Gone are the days of centralised control, where ministers and civil servants in Whitehall made decisions about investments taking place in other parts of the country. The visionary principles of the 1968 Transport Act – handing responsibility for local transport to regional authorities – are back at the forefront of political thinking today.” Jones says that the new Urban Transport Group will be a forum for spreading best practice as devolution opens up new opportunities for the city-regions.
