TfW shows refugee solidarity with Oasis partnership

Transport for Wales, with charity Oasis offering support for asylum seekers and refugees

Transport for Wales (TfW) has a new partnership from today with refugee and asylum seeker charity Oasis. It will donate equipment and provide employment support, working with the charity.

Oasis welcomes people who are seeking sanctuary and provides support to roughly 100-150 visitors each day from around the globe. A range of activities, support and classes are offered to help refugees and asylum seekers better integrate within their local community.

TfW says the partnership is 'part of its commitment to anti-racism, providing greater career opportunities to under-represented groups, with the aim of diversifying its workforce operating and delivering Wales’ multi-modal transport network.'

As well as providing donations and career opportunities, TfW says it will 'provide community support through its sustainability team and community teams to provide greater engagement with the clients of Oasis.'

According to the Welsh Refugee Council in Cardiff there are over 10,000 refugees, with asylum seekers and refugees making up less than 0.5% of the Welsh population.

The announcement adds to TfW’s existing free travel scheme for refugees which runs until March 31, 2024.
