Merseyrail MD to step down

Merseyrail Managing Director Maarten Spaargaren will step down from his role from January 1 2015.

Spaargaren will evaluate his future career options, and has not ruled out working in his native Netherlands or in the UK. He has been MD of Merseyrail for three years.

Northern Rail Service Delivery Director and Deputy Managing Director Alan Chaplin will take over as interim managing director of Merseyrail. This is a role he has previously filled at Northern.
