Network Rail’s engineering works close to Oxford station have ground to a halt, following the discovery of a metre-thick arch of unknown age underneath Botley Road.
NR says it will be unable to complete its six-month utilities programme by October, because archaeological investigations have to be carried out. A complex new retaining structure will also have to be built to stop nearby buildings collapsing.
