Govia Thameslink Railway has given away to charity its 1,000th bike found abandoned at one of its stations.
It was among a vanload of unwanted machines delivered to Community Cycleworks in Southwark, south London. Some have also gone to the NHS.
Chiltern Railways is another train operator to give away bikes abandoned at its stations, this time to refugees.
Starting at Marylebone and working north, the Bike Project will collect unwanted cycles and repair them for new owners. It has given almost 10,000 a new home since 2013.

A striking example of the pioneering of railway enterprises in social assistance and sharing! Bravo and best wishes for more to come! Dr. Güntürk Üstün
