July 17 marked 1,000 days since the Rail Network Enhancements Pipeline was last published - despite a government pledge to update it annually. The initial (and so far, only) RNEP was unveiled in October 2019.
Railway Industry Association Chief Executive Darren Caplan said, “Already, the delay has resulted in at least £1 billion being cut from the rail enhancements budget to March 2024. If the DfT is not in a position to publish a national update, RIA and the rail supply sector would welcome engaging in dialogue on how plans can be taken forward at a local level.”

Which is now worse, this delay or the famous hiatus in ordering new rolling stock when BR was privatised? Is Grant Shapps breaking that sad record?

If they're unable to update the process what hope is there of anything practical coming out of it?
