Track and drainage work at Water Orton

Major track alterations and lineside drainage are due to take place at Water Orton (North Warwickshire) and Duddeston (Birmingham) from February 19-27, closing parts of the railway for the nine-day period.

Journeys will take longer, rail replacement buses will be in place, and timetables will change for services between:

  • Birmingham New Street and Leicester, Peterborough, Cambridge and Stansted Airport.
  • Cardiff Central and Birmingham New Street to Nottingham.
  • Scotland and the North East to Birmingham New Street and the South West.

Long-distance CrossCountry trains will be diverted around the work, but it will mean longer journey times. Regional services linking the East Midlands and East Anglia with Birmingham will start and terminate at Coleshill Parkway. Replacement buses will operate between Coleshill Parkway, Water Orton and Birmingham New Street.

Preparatory work was due to take place on February 5-6 (after this issue of RAIL went to press) and 12-13, additionally affecting CrossCountry services.

The major and essential engineering work by Network Rail that will affect "Arriva UK Trains" owned "CrossCountry (legal name XC Trains Limited)" services this February, is a part of long-term improvements to the to the grid, including preparations for HS2 which is Britain’s new zero carbon, high-speed railway. In short, some serious patience advised to travellers while Network Rail helps build the rail line in question for the future. Dr. Güntürk Üstün
