Bolton-based Booth Industries opened a purpose-built factory on December 7 to manufacture more than 300 heavy steel safety doors that will be needed for the insides of HS2 tunnels.
HS2 CEO Mark Thurston visited the plant to endorse the £36.5 million programme, which requires extra capacity and take ten years to complete.
After development and testing, manufacturing and installation of the doors is expected to begin in 2025. They have to be able to withstand the pressures of trains passing at 200mph, and temperatures of 100°C.
