Work has begun on a Department for Transport-funded £6.7 million upgrade at Surbiton station in south-west London.
The project involves building new staircases, a footbridge extension, and doubling the number of ticket gates for Platforms 3/4 from eight to 16. Network Rail said the upgrades are designed to improve passenger safety and journey times as passenger numbers grow post-COVID, and should be completed by the end of May 2022.
Surbiton is the eighth busiest on NR’s Wessex route, with nearly 9.5 million passengers passing through it during 2019-20.
