Tom Allett has joined RAIL as Features Editor, having spent more than 30 years in the commercial aviation sector. He devoted about half of that time to working in airline ground operations.
He hung up his hi-vis jacket to move indoors for a flight-watch role, which led him to work at several UK airports before being persuaded to write for a living as the editor of a business-to-business aviation title.
After almost 20 years in the editor’s chair, Tom has now swapped runways for railways. And he is delighted to have the opportunity to immerse himself in the day-to-day business of another critical arm of the UK’s transport network.
“I have a particular interest in operations and customer service, in all their various forms, and I am looking forward to meeting the people who keep the industry’s heart beating through performing what are often thankless tasks,” he said.
Paul Stephen, RAIL’s long-serving former Features Editor, has moved into the role of News Editor.
