The University of Birmingham’s purpose-built digital technology and engineering laboratory has been formally opened by Transport Minister Andrew Stephenson.
The new Centre of Excellence for Digital Systems is a partnership created by the university and the UK Rail Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN), with investment from Research England. Facilities include cab simulators, a signalling control centre and project laboratories, all to provide training, new skills and opportunities for people entering the industry.
Meanwhile, former Rail Delivery Group Chief Executive Paul Plummer has been appointed Professor of Railway Strategy at the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education.
