ESG revealed its new Wheel Slide Protection Evaluation Rig (WSPER) in Derby on November 4.
The rig is used to evaluate low adhesion braking performance of full train braking system. Known as a ‘hardware in the loop’ simulation tool, WSPER is able to re-create realistic operational conditions by making braking equipment work as if it were fitted to a train. It is also able to measure the effectiveness of adhesion enhancers such as sanders.
The rig is expected to be used by train operators, leasing companies, maintainers, manufacturers and infrastructure owners.
