Finance for ScotRail’s new AT200 electric multiple units will come from Caledonian Rail Leasing Ltd, a part of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC). The financing is for acquisition of 70 trains (46 three-car trains and 24 four-car trains). The trains will operate on the Edinburgh-Glasgow via Falkirk route as well as on suburban services.
The rolling stock is being procured from Hitachi Rail Europe and leased to Abellio Scotrail, which will take over the franchise in April. Seven of the units will be imported from Japan, with the other 63 being assembled at Hitachi’s Newton Aycliffe factory.
