Hitachi’s Class 800 bi-mode trains have passed mandatory tests of onboard European Train Control System (ETCS) equipment.
Tests were made at Network Rail’s ERTMS National Integration Facility at Hitchin, using 800002. They included proving that the train’s ETCS Baseline 3 onboard equipment worked safely with older Baseline 2 trackside equipment which used a different supplier’s system.
Network Rail plans to install ETCS on key routes in a bid to increase capacity.
