A Direct Rail Services Class 68 will attend the Mid Norfolk Railway's diesel gala on December 27/28.
One of the 15 brand new locomotives used by DRS will haul passenger trains at the event. This will be the first time one a '68' has attended a preservation gala and hauled trains.
The 15 locomotives in the UK were all delivered this year. Six are destined for Chiltern Railways (68010-68015), and these are expected to start work early next year.
This means that after a Pathfinder Tours charter on December 6, this event will be only the second time people will be able to ride behind a Class 68. Two locomotives, 68005/006, hauled additional trains in September in connection with the Ryder Cup, but these were only available to passengers with tickets for the golf event.
