Final Merseyrail Class 507s heading for scrap

Merseyrail's 507018 at Birkenhead North. HOWARD JOHNSTON.

A start has been made on sending the final few Merseyrail Class 507s for scrap.

On December 2, 37800 Cassiopeia worked the 0554 Birkenhead North EMUD- Newport Docks, taking 507007/018 to Sims Group for scrapping.

That left just 507001 (which is destined for preservation) and 507003/023/029 to leave the Merseyrail network.

The former is set to be displayed at some of the Railway 200 events before moving to the Tanat Valley Light Railway, while the other three units will head for scrap. All the ‘507s’ were owned by Angel Trains.
