Refurbished ‘Enterprise’ enters service in Ireland

Translink Northern Ireland Railways launched the first refurbished ‘Enterprise’ train into service on November 16, as part of a £12.2 million upgrade programme.

The trains have received a comprehensive interior overhaul with new power sockets, tables and lighting, a redesigned catering car, better signage and an electronic ticket reservation system.

The upgrade is due to be completed by the end of 2015, and will ensure that the 28 1996-built De Dietrich coaches and slightly older Mk 3 generator vans can run for another ten to 15 years.

Translink is encouraging business passengers travelling between Belfast and Dublin to buy pre-paid carnet tickets, which are claimed to offer savings of up to 38% compared with the cost of walk-on single tickets.
