Direct through trains between London and Great Yarmouth will not run this summer, with Class 37-hauled ‘portions’ replacing them.
The Class 37s, hired from Direct Rail Services, will operate from May 23 until September 5.
Trains will depart Norwich at 0906, 1025, 1218 and 1418, and return at 0947, 1114, 1255 and 1455. They are all booked to be non-stop and will run via Reedham. The trains will be top and tailed, with a Class 37/4 at each end. DRS will provide a rake of through-wired Mk 2s. Weekday operations with ‘37s’ should start next month.

Heard about the 37's coming through just the other day. Great to be able to find out time. Thank you Rail.

If they reinstated a curve at Reedham, they could top 'n' tail into Lowestoft first via Ipswich/East Suffolk Line and then to Great Yarmouth via the same route turning right at Reedham for Norwich. The reinstatement of a single curve to inform a triangle at reedham would allow more flexibility and capacity for these lines to be doing a whole lot more, including Felixstowe freight via Crown Point curve to the Ely lines and back 'off main lines' including night working. It needs some vision and impetus and success' of the bucket and spade trains indicates a public take-up. Another idea is a new section off the Mid Norfolk Railway for an A27 P&R and run direct through via Crown Point if Norwich is unable to take top 'n' tail due to limited baying capacity.

Hi Andrew, this news story is actually from last year, so not sure if it applies to this summer as well. The best people to contact are Network Rail - you can visit their website at www.networkrail.co.uk. Best wishes, Natalie
