Southeastern unveils '465' in Network SouthEast livery and names it after sector's founder

Network SouthEast liveried Class 465 arrives at Charing Cross ahead of naming after Chris Green. SOUTHEASTERN.

The instantly recognisable Network SouthEast (NSE) livery adorns a Class 465 EMU once again.

Southeastern has organised repainting a Class 465 Networker unit (465908) which was named after the man who led the foundation of NSE, Chris Green, in a ceremony at Charing Cross station on February 24.

The repainting is part of Railway 200, with the unit set to be used on charity railtours and other celebratory events during the year.

Former NSE director Green, who was guest of honour, said: “I remain immensely proud of everything Network SouthEast accomplished and the foundations it built for today’s railway – particularly in and around south-east London and parts of Kent. We showed what can be achieved by working together across track and train and putting customers at the heart of our decision making.

“Today’s event was a wonderful reminder of that period of time and an opportunity to recognise the role the Networker fleet played in developing Network SouthEast, as well as the role the fleet continues to play across Southeastern today. I am grateful for today’s recognition and I look forward to more strides forward in the coming years, too.”

The unveiling of the name was done with Rail Minister Lord Hendy, who described the unveiling of the Networker as a “great opportunity for railway colleagues, both past and present, and passengers to come together to celebrate this special year for the industry”.

The Class 465s entered service in 1992 but are set to soon be replaced.

There are minor differences between the original NSE livery and the 2025-version applied to 465908. This includes grey doors as opposed to blue to help with modern accessibility requirements. Work was funded by Angel Trains and carried out by Wabtec during scheduled heavy maintenance.

Southeastern’s Managing Director, Steve White, said the operator would be holding more Railway 200 events to commemorate how the railway helped the region it serves.

The retro-liveried unit will also be appearing at Alstom's Greatest Gathering in Derby in August.
