UK Railtours is running its annual Christmas Carol service train to Norwich on December 14, with the train top-and-tailed by two Class 37s from the Europhoenix fleet.
The train will start at London King’s Cross and head to the Norfolk city via Cambridge, Ely and Peterborough. Here, the train will reverse and head east via Thetford.
Passengers can enjoy a long break in the city to take in the Carol service in the cathedral, or alternatively stay on board the trains as the ‘37s’ work a mini-tour to Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft - although the latter will not be to the station, but to cover the recently reactivated sidings in the town.
After returning to Norwich and picking up passengers, the train heads for a convoluted return trip to King’s Cross via Lincolnshire, running via Peterborough two-way goods line and then via Spalding, Sleaford, Allington Junction and Grantham, where it will rejoin the East Coast Main Line and head back to Peterborough and then King’s Cross.
UKR’s planned October 26 Class 20/37 tour to East Anglia has been moved to January 18 owing to operational issues.
