LNER, the East Coast Main Line operator, has introduced a new Azuma train named "Thank You" as a tribute to those who have served in the Armed Forces. The train 800111 has been adorned with a poppy design and will travel the route between London and Aberdeen.
Former military personnel who now work for LNER were involved in the launch ceremony. Helen Firth, a former Royal Navy Petty Officer, and Will Warwick, a former Royal Air Force Senior Aircraftman, officially welcomed the "Thank You" train into service at London King's Cross.
As a token of appreciation for their service, LNER will once again offer free rail travel to veterans attending Remembrance Day services across the country.
James Downey, Director of Business Services at LNER, expressed the company's gratitude for the sacrifices made by veterans. "We are proud that Azuma 800111 will carry our message of thanks," he said. "We hope this special livery serves as a moving reminder to all who see it on our route."
The operator already has a specially liveried Class 91 InterCity 225 ‘For The Fallen’ as part of its fleet.
