ScotRail to restore full timetable

ScotRail is to restore its full timetable from Monday 7 October for the first time since a temporary timetable was introduced on 10 July.

This is after train drivers in the ASLEF union voted by 3 to 1 to accept a new pay offer.

ASLEF Scotland Organiser, Kevin Lindsay, said: "This is a positive result that was achieved through the resolute determination of our members to get a fair pay deal for them and their families.”

ScotRail said it introduced the temporary timetable, which saw reductions in service frequencies on some routes, to increase resilience and avoid last-minute cancellations.

The operator is recruiting 160 new drivers every year to reduce its reliance on overtime working – the company describes it as the biggest driver recruitment in Britain. Since ScotRail entered public ownership in April 2022, more than 250 drivers have been recruited.

Mark Ilderton, ScotRail’s Service Delivery Director, said: "We are delighted to confirm that our full timetable will return on Monday (October 7). We have been working round the clock to deliver this in a very short space of time because we know how important a full service is to our customers.

It’s been a difficult few months for our customers and staff, and we thank everybody for their patience.”
