New Class 93 tri-modes continue UK testing

Rail Operations Group’s new Stadler Class 93s have started tests on the Melton RIDC test track. On September 4, 93001 passes Normanton Wolds as it brings up the rear of a train being hauled by 93002, which is out of sight. JASON CROSS

The two Stadler Class 93 locomotives now in the UK have moved to the Rail Innovation and Development Centre (near Melton Mowbray), for the next stage of their testing prior to venturing out onto the West Coast Main Line.

On August 30, 37218 collected 93001/002 and took them as the 1310 Worksop Down Yard-Castle Donington EMDC. The following day, the ‘37’ then took the two new tri-modes as the 0937 Castle Donington EMDC-Old Dalby.

Testing started on September 2 and will allow them to run at the design speed of 110mph on the 10½-mile electrified section of the 15-mile test track.
