Staff from Transport Infrastructure Ireland have toured the Tyne and Wear Metro’s Gosforth depot on a fact-finding mission, as Dublin prepares to build its first metro system.
The £70 million Nexus depot was completed in January. Delegates were given a detailed tour of its stores, offices, welfare facilities, control room, workshops and train stabling areas, to learn about its facilities layout and how it was built.
Work is due to start next year on the Dublin MetroLink mass transit system. It will run for 18.8km (11.7 miles) with 16 stations, and is expected to open in 2035.
