Network Rail has launched a publicity campaign ahead of the autumn leaf-clearing season, inviting people to think up a name for one of its ‘leafbuster’ trains.
The Railhead Treatment Trains (RHTTs) are used across the network to clear the tracks of slippery leaf sludge that reduces braking effectiveness.
Techniques include high-pressure water jets to clean the rails and application of a sandy gel to improve wheel grip.
