Ore tunnel to close for repairs

Work taking place in a railway tunnel

The railway line between Hastings and Rye will close from Saturday 19 October to Sunday 3 November for major repairs in the Ore tunnel.

Network Rail engineers will repair sections of brickwork, with parts of the tunnel lined with sprayed concrete, and 700 yards of track will be replaced.

In addition, four sets of switches and crossings will be replaced, and work will be done on embankments and cuttings to prevent landslides.

Other work will include repairing the footbridge at Ore station and the maintenance of the Briscoe Road bridge in Guestling.

Buses will replace trains between Hastings, Rye and Ashford International.
