Camden boost for freight operators

Network Rail has given reassurance to freight operators DB Cargo, GB Railfreight and Freightliner, after they all objected to conversion of a disused London viaduct between Camden Gardens and York Way (near King’s Cross) into the Highline public walkway.

Although it has entered into a 25-year agreement with Camden Council, NR says it can terminate the lease after just 15 years if rail traffic growth demands it.

Although any reinstatement may not take place until the early 2040s, NR has always considered reinstating a third track and a platform on the northern side of Camden Road station, using part of the former four-track formation through the station.

Reinstating a third platform would enable the present Platform 2 to be used as a central turnback, with Platform 3 becoming the eastbound line for through London Overground services and the majority of freight.
