Records broken on Elizabeth line as passenger numbers rise again

London’s Elizabeth line continues to set new records, with a total of 18.3 million passengers carried in the four weeks to July 20.

Passenger journeys on the cross-Capital corridor, which opened in May 2022, had looked like they were stabilising at around the mid-17 million range.

But since late June, more journeys have been recorded, particularly in the morning and early evening peaks.

Statistics for the first seven months of 2024 show that the Elizabeth line has enjoyed a 14.4% increase in business this year, compared with 6.6% growth on London Underground, and only a small extra demand on the Overground network and Docklands Light Railway. London Trams (Croydon) witnessed a slight fall.
