New apps from Govia Thameslink Railway now allow commuters to buy and store season tickets on their smartphones for Great Northern, Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express services.
Previously GTR only offered single and return tickets through its apps, to prevent the fraudulent sharing of season ticket barcodes. Now new technology has been incorporated into the company’s apps that creates a unique barcode for every journey taken, so now the sTicket holder need only scan their phone at the station ticket gate.
Weekly, monthly and annual seasons are all available on selected routes and can be bought without booking fees.
The apps also provide up-to-date service information on the customer’s local train network and personalised updates for regular journeys. They can also store digital railcards to give an automatic discount on eligible tickets.
