Network Rail has completed the first phase of a major bridge replacement project in Hackney, East London. The 150-year-old bridge, which carries Downs Park Road over the railway, was in a dangerous condition and required urgent replacement.
London Overground services between Liverpool Street and Chingford resumed on 5 August following a 16-day closure to allow engineers to demolish the old bridge and begin construction of the new one.
While the railway has reopened, work will continue on the bridge until early 2025, with further disruption expected on some weekends. Network Rail and train operators have apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked passengers for their cooperation.
The project is part of wider improvements to the Chingford line, including track and signalling upgrades.
