GB Railfreight has secured a two-year extension to its contract with DP World to handle freight trains at London Gateway port. The deal will see the rail operator continue to prepare all departing trains from the busy terminal.
Over the next two years, the partnership with over 5,000 train services operating in and out of London Gateway each year. By shifting freight from road to rail, the collaboration is anticipated to help reduce carbon emissions by 76% per tonne compared to HGVs, as well as easing congestion and improving road safety.

“Our extended contract with GB Railfreight will help us to keep delivering and developing our freight train services from London Gateway over the next two years.”
London Gateway is the country’s third largest container port after Felixstowe and Southampton, handling 1.5 million units per year. GB Railfreight handles intermodal services at multiple ports across the country including Felixstowe, Teesport and Seaforth in Merseyside, moving approximately 23% of the UK’s rail cargo.
