Next step in GCR reunification bid

The Great Central Railway has submitted a planning application to Charnwood Borough Council for its ambitious reunification scheme.

The project aims to reconnect two separate heritage railways to create an 18-mile line from the north of Leicester to the south of Nottingham.

Both sections were part of the original Great Central Railway between Sheffield and London, which closed in 1969.

New plans for the proposed link were revealed in April. These now need to be turned into engineering designs and specifications, which is likely to cost around half a million pounds.
