Day two of RAIL Live promises to be a full day of debate and discussion across both the Policy and Leadership Theatre as well as the Engineering Theatre.
ASLEF General Secretary, Mick Whelan takes to the stage for the first discussion as he chats more on how rail reform can help shape the industry it represents as well as the union’s role in helping making that a reality in the future.
Freight takes centre stage for the second talk this morning on the Policy & Leadership Theatre, as Julian Worth, freight lead at CILT, and Kathryn Oldale, head of strategy and policy at DB Cargo discuss the shifting priorities of freight and how rail can help ensure the much-needed modal shift happens. Focusing on long distance freight and last mile delivery solutions, it promises to showcase the opportunities that rail freight offers and how the market is opening up.
Over on the Engineering Theatre, track access and how to solve the issue of not having enough of it will be the focus of the first discussion. Working smarter, ensuring structural change can happen in the future and how to better work together will be the main topics of this sure to be engaging discussion.
RAIL Live will then be joined by Rail Partners and a delegation from the Ukrainian Railways who will be enlightening the audience on exactly how to navigate uncertain times during conflict, the lessons they’ve learnt from keeping a railway running during a war and how the industry in the UK can help.
It promises to be a packed day as ever, with thousands of visitors using the opportunity to build connections and discuss at length the future of rail.
