Train services restarted between Bolton and Blackburn on August 24, following the completion of £14 million improvement works on the Clitheroe-Manchester route.
The work, which took place over five weeks, involved building additional track either side of Darwen station, to enable a half-hourly daytime service between Manchester and Blackburn.
Nick Spall, route delivery director for Network Rail, said: “I would like to thank passengers and our lineside neighbours for their patience during the work, which will bring real long-term benefits for all concerned.”
